Product Description

Review

'SILVERWING is top-notch fantasy adventure writing. Go for it.' -- Daily Telegraph 'cracking stories, brimming with adventure, redolent of great mythical sagas of the past, alive with invention, thoughtful - at times profound and probing - and never faltering when it comes to thrills and page-turning power.' -- Carousel 20021108 'Fast faced, cliff-hanging action ... Recommend this one.' -- School Library Journal 20021108 'Totally compelling ... an excellent adventure story.' -- The Scotsman 20021108 'Oppel's achievement is to have created much more than an action adventure involving bats. This first powerful novel successfully creates a new fantasy world.' -- Literary Review 20021108 'A JONATHAN LIVINGSTONE SEAGULL of the bat community ... this epic journey is gripping, and details of bat life are inventively and convincingly imagined.' -- Publisher's Weekly 20021108 FIREWING: 'The third book in a riveting saga about bats ... capable of enthralling both 9-11s, as well as an older audience.' -- Achuka website 20021001 'A fascinating, gripping adventure story' -- Teen Titles 20030101

5.0 out of 5 stars Please write another one Kenneth Oppel!, 18 Oct 2005
By Antigone White "graceagednearly9" (London UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Bats are one of my favourite animals. When I finished this book I wanted to read it all over again ( which I did - about 10 times), then I read Sunwing and Firewing and am now desperately hoping that another one will be out soon. Mr Oppel, if you're reading this, please write a 4th book.
These books are thrilling and the idea is very original. If I could wish on a shooting star it would be that this series go on for ever and ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars A bat, Shade,is lost in a storm & is trying to get home., 17 Feb 2001
By A Customer
A young bat called Shade broke the law of the Silverwing bats by looking at the sun. On his first hibernation to Hibernaculam, he is blown away to an island. There he meets a banded Brightwing called Marina. Shade and Marina then begin a perilous journey to find Shade's colony and escape the giant cannibal bats Goth and Throbb. This book is exellent and it would appeal to children aged between 9~15. A full *****.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thrilling adventure deep into the minds of the bat kingdom, 6 April 2003
This review is from: Silverwing (Paperback)
Kenneth Oppel is a fantastic author who can capture the minds of readers and has achieved the ultimate destination in childrens writing, to write an anthropromorphic novel that seems real enough to be true. I was enchanted by the charachters, particularly Marina and Zephyr my favourite charachters. One of the best books in the Silverwing trilogy saga. A television series just isn't good emough for this book. A truly magnificent piece of work.
