4.0 out of 5 stars Aldo, 13 Sep 2007
By S. Knight (Wirral) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: My Story (Paperback)
Being a Tranmere Rovers fan and watching Aldo score 174 times in just 287 appearances for my club i might be slightly biased in my assessment of this book, but i found it an intriguing read.
This book covers Aldo's career from starting out in the local parks in Liverpool, playing non-league with South Liverpool before being spotted and turning professional with Newport then Oxford,Liverpool,Real Sociedad,International honours with Republic of Ireland and the book finishes with his time spent at Tranmere as both player and manager.
John likes to have a laugh and tells many a witty tale but there is also a caring sensitive side and reading about the loss of his beloved Father brings a tear to the eye.
I have read better books that's for sure but a decent read all the same from a footballing heroe of mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating, entralling, unique, 4 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: My Story (Paperback)
John Aldridge and Hyder Jawad have teamed together to produce an interesting book that deals memorably with a host of subjects, not least the character of John's father. The book starts brilliantly and maintains the momentum for the first five chapters. It loses its way slightly after that but there is still enough to keep readers enthralled. Unlike the hardback edition, which ended delightfully, this paperback edition is in need of a rousing conclusion. Nevertheless, this is one of the most unique footballing autobiographies to be published.

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting read for all you Liverpool and Tranmere fans!, 1 Mar 2000
By A Customer
You can sense from the start that this book has been ghost written, however much I am a fan of John Aldridge I felt that the book did not go deep enough into some of the things he has seen and done. I have no doubt that if futher managerial success is achieved by Aldridge he will write another book, perhaps revealling more than this one. However, it is still a good insight into Aldos life and is worth the read if only to laugh at the character of his father!
