The sports agent and his rookie quarterback client, 10 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Harlan Coben has the knack of introducing enough characters and enough possible story lines to keep you guessing right to the end - and again I was wrong! Sports agent Myran Bolitar, his wealthy ex-college friend Windsor Lockwood III and his ever-reliable personal assistant and ex-wrestler, Esperanza Diaz, work their way through numerous scenarios in the search for what actually happened to Kathy Culver. Another thoroughly enjoyable read - very highly recommended.

The first in a GREAT series of books...., 15 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Harlan Coben introduces the enigmatic and humourous central character, Myron Bolitar, a sports agent who doubles as a private investigator when the need arises. 3 dimensional characters, plenty of witty retorts and a great storyline makes this book a must buy for all thriller and mystery readers. Read this book I guarentee you wil be coming back for more!

Someone please punch Myron Bolitar out!, 14 May 2001
Three pages in I had a sinking feeling but persevered to the end and was just glad to get Deal Breaker over with. The plot is reasonably well thought out with enough twists and turns so you're never quite sure how it'll turn out. The main problem is that Coben tries to set up his hero, sports agent Myron Bolitar, as a perfect women-want-him, men-want-to-be-him kind of bloke. Unfortunately he comes across as self-rightious, pompous and arrogant and merely grows more irritating as the story progresses. His judgmental attitude is quite frankly insulting. Myron's 'witty and wisecracking' style is meant to drive the story on but the dialogue is actually very poor and characters often wind up talking in prose which doesn't work at all. Add to this a supporting cast who are rarely convincing and mostly unlikable and there's not much left to recommend it.
