Product Description

Product Description
Wipe is the first book to speak to parents about how it is, rather than how it should be. It addresses the issues - from bottoms to brains - that all new parents have to contend with on a daily basis. Written with wit, frankness and poignancy it includes a whole range of real parents' stories to illustrate the problems and bring you tried and tested solutions for everything from recovering your sex life to giving parties for 30 small children high on e-numbers. Covering subjects untouched by other parenting books, Wipe won't make your children happier or brainier, but it will entertain, enlighten, and bring you the reassuring message that it's more than Ok not to be the perfect parent.

About the Author
Penny Wilson is a single parent with a son with a serious brain illness. She is the co-founder of Wipe magazine, which began in 1999 and was designed to be unlike any other parenting magazine in its style and content. The magazine is now on hold while the book publishes, and she and her partner develop the TV series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Witty, refreshingly honest & not just for parents !, 26 Feb 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Wipe (Paperback)
Managed to get hold of a copy of WIPE just before it publication date and was really glad I did. It's the first of many parenting books I've trawled through in the last 6 months (or rather the first 6 months of my first pregnancy), and it's the first time I haven't felt patronised and as though I was about to become the most inadequate parent alive. It's a really refreshing read - funny, honest and would amuse anyone - not just those in my current state. I even managed to get my husband to read a bit and caught him laughing our loud too !
Pregnant, planning to be pregnant, or already a parent - go and get yourself a copy of WIPE - I can't recommend it enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different perspective on parenting that works, 20 Mar 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Wipe (Paperback)
It's a groundbreaking book that although anecdotal offers a surprising depth of observations into being a parent. Having read other guides that give readers the 'should list' of parenting, Wipe avoids that and shares the combined experience of others. This is reassuring and 'Wipe Wisdom' is a neat and unconventionally quirky way of understanding the parameters of parenting issues.

The issues range from mothers losing their body shape, sex during and after pregnancy, the birth, single parent dating, transport, disablity, relationship changes, sleepless nights and a very funny guide to PTA meetings and the toenail story. Sensitively written it may well become the 2002 definitive guide to helping prepare future parents. Experience comes out of the pages and enables insight. In summary an easy read and well written, I enjoyed it's style and pace as well as it's content and read it in a day !
