Product Description

Product Description

Eating habits start at an early age and this work covers every aspect of nutrition relevant to babies and young children. This new edition contains new ideas, updated information and more emphasis on special diets and nursery practice across the spectrum. The basics of healthy nutrition, multicultural provision, special diets, hygiene and psychological aspects of food are discussed and the book also includes numerous food-related activities and 50 recipes. It should be a useful handbook for professionals and students following the Council of Awards in Children's Care and Education, as well as a resource for parents and all those caring for young children.

5.0 out of 5 stars an oldie but a goodie, 29 Jul 2009
i very recently purchased this item and although it is an older book(1998) it is still very relevant today. it includes ideas on cooking with children, incorporating a multi ethnic menu into your setting, catering for picnics and parties, gardening with children, healthy low sugar puddings and lots of (mostly vegetarian) simple tasty recipes for mealtimes at nursery.
one point to be aware of is that some of the weaning advice for babies is a bit outdated, for example, it recommends smooth peanut better as a weaning food and liver also. but other than that, it is a great book that can help settings(and also mums and dads in the home environment) provide healthy food for their families.
