Product Description

Product Description

Clive, 44, is a fallen geography teacher who is forced to become a tour guide to survive. His new coworkers, Barry and Alex, are useless. Their adventures take us through the new landscape of England, but if it wasn't for the lovely Rose who drives their coach, Clive would be off the emotional map.

From the Publisher

The brilliant follow on to Oi, Ref! ENGLAND ALL OVER intimately explores one man's attempts to rebuild his life, as well as examining the English condition in general.

A fresh and enlivening take on the age-old problem of relationships that is witty and vibrant and will appeal to BOTH sexes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overall, a good read, 19 Feb 2004
By Neil Jackson (Newcastle upon Tyne) - See all my reviews
This review is from: England All Over (Paperback)
I made a special effort to obtain a copy of England All Over, and I'm glad I did. The book starts well, with good style and interesting character and plot development pulling the reader in. Locations are treated realistically and with sympathy. English readers feel "part of the club", thanks to the clever device of using tourists as a counterpoint to the way we see our country. The emotion in the Clive character's story, and the mixture of light and dark moods made me think I was enjoying something of a classic. Sadly, in the latter stages the novel descends into rather whimsical territory, including a couple of scenes which would have been far better left out. Also, Clive, on whom the whole thing hinges, actually changes from likeable to rather irritating at this point. That said, the writer rescues it all at the end. If you love all the very real things about England, you'll probably love this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very funny book about England and English men., 4 April 2001
This review is from: England All Over (Paperback)
I was very resistant to this book's "laddishness" at first, but as characters developed I found myself laughing outloud at the adventures of these unusual tour guides. This book is funny and surprisingly moving at the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars a very good read, 28 Nov 2000
this book made me want to return to England to live. Is that a good or a bad thing?
