4.0 out of 5 stars A book to point you in the right direction on being an actor, 8 Mar 2002
By Keith J. Cutler (Cheshire) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The title of the book is misleading, but once you have come to terms with that, you at once discover a guide on the important things you need to know and do if you want to act, whether professionally or as an amateur.

The author states that his intention behind writing the book was to provide the reader who would like to attend a summer course on acting with RADA, an insight. He achieves that, giving guidance on where to look if the reader wants more.

Of great help are the suggestions of what other books to buy and useful contact addresses.

There is also enough guidance on acting techniques to whet the appetite.

But as with all books which introduces a reader to this hardest of professions, it is clear and open on the risks that could lie ahead. It talks of schools, training and the business of acting in an honest way.

The author clearly has personal knowledge and insight into training the budding showman, but the list of acting terms at the end is a little odd, suggesting that he ran out of copy.
