5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! A must read., 5 Jan 2001
By slsc16123@cableinet.co.uk (Edinburgh, Scotland) - See all my reviews
Being in the restaurant trade I had heard of The Ivy, but never experienced it's magic: this book brings that magic closer! For me the highlight of this book is the "day in the life" of The Ivy. It conjures up comparisons that I can make with my restuarant and my owner, like Jeremy he too raises an eybrow whenever he walks in on service! The recipes are fantastic, even my chef wants to use one or two, the descriptions by Gill are just a shear work of art. Reading the book makes you almost feel as if you are there during service - if only this was true! You must buy this book.

Salmon fishcakes, Scandinavian iced berries... this book is mouthwatering. Can't see Mr Gill being thrown out of this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Far too good for my liking, 3 Nov 1998
By A Customer
I was not happy when this book was published, because as soon as I read the first section I knew my days of getting a table for dinner at a paltry fortnight's notice were over. My fears have proved correct, and I suspect largely because of AA Gill's riveting commentary on the workings of this exemplary restaurant which accompanies the (sometimes complex and all too fallible) recipes. If you only buy one "book of the meal", make it this one.
