5.0 out of 5 stars 2nd in the war guests trilogy, 5 Jul 2002
By A Customer
after reading the first book, "the sky is falling", i expected that the second book would be a teriffic come down. However i was pleasantly surprised and while the first book will always be my favourite, i thoughouly enjoyed the second and bought the third one the very same day that i bought the sevond. in the book Norah, who has settled into canadian life is unbalanced by the arrival at gairloch of another cousin, andrew. The book describes Norahs vastly fickle feelings for andrew throughout the summer and also shows the adventures which she and her cousins get up to.

5.0 out of 5 stars All 3 are brilliant. Read them now!, 30 April 2000
By A Customer
I read all three of the books, and I connected mostly to the 2nd one, because I am the same age as Norah is then. The basic storyline goes like this: Norah and her brother Gavin are evacuated to Canada, Gavin is only 6 at the time and doesn't understand what's happening. Norah is very annoyed and does not look after him. She does not like Aunt Florence, her main guardian, but likes her daughter Aunt Mary. She feels lonely and is very unhappy. She goes a bit wild and does silly things, but it is mostly ok in the end. The 2nd book is all at the family house, Gairloch, in north canada. The whole extended family has come on summer holiday, and Norah falls in love with her cousin, Andrew, who is 19. She is only 13 and sometimes feels left out because she is not one of the family. In this book she does look after Gavin. The 3rd book is written in Gavin's eyes rather than Norah's and is about the decisions he has to make. He has to decide whether to go back to England or stay in canada. This one made me cry!
