5.0 out of 5 stars Ben is back and he's grown a meanstreak!, 1 Jun 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Light Errant (Paperback)
Ben Macallan has done some growing up since the previous book 'Dead of Light'in which he was a cowardly drunk who spent most of his time hiding from his family. He's home and things have changed. Ben and all the male Macallans have a talent, a magic if you will. Ben can only call on his in daylight while the rest of the family need moonlight or starshine to feed their power. The Macallans have held their hometown in terrified thrall, taking what they wanted casually murdering those that got in the way, but when Ben returns home he finds the balance of power has shifted. This book has the problem all sequels have ...having to live up to the first book, but it does so admirably. The pace and tension of the plot works well, the characters are believable and I truly cared about their fate. There are some surprising twists and turns, and just when it seems that all is lost Ben manages to pull triumph from the sleeve of adversity. I enjoyed this book every bit as much as the first and have my fingers crossed hoping for a third!!
