If you really think about this book after you have read it, there are some parts that don't make sense. I realised this whilst reading it, and some things he writes are just scientifically impossible(eg. at the end when Rafe and Ellen are floating towards earth from mars - a journey which would take years in reality). But, as I have a wild imagination, I just ignored them and found that this book was one of the most interesting and imaginative books I have read so far!

Curses on my cloddish inarticulate skills at describing a work so sublime as Centuries. Gripping ideas nested within wonderful stories of tragedy, love and transcendence. I know this sounds smarmy, but if I had to choose what handful of books I could keep from my library this would be one of them. Attanasio has many gifts and one that immiedately comes to mind are his characters--Ned 0'Tennis, Charlie and Rafe Von Takawa. For me Rafe has been the most memorable and tragic protoganist I've met since Ahab.

My sincere prayer is that someday this storyline will be continued, barring this that I might live to read the next Attanasio novel.

This book starts out poor and just gets worse. He doesn't explan how and why society changes as it does and avoids all the difficult questions. The ending takes the book from dubious sci-fi to absolute dribble.The characters seem bland and predictable. Yet another cash in on the millenium.
