Product Description
The war between humans halted as the great military powers scrambled to meet an even deadlier foe. Already, Berlin and Washington had been wiped out and the US and the Axis territories lay under the invaders' control. Yet humanity refused to surrender.

4.0 out of 5 stars The saga continues, 16 Nov 1999
By A Customer
the books start is actuallyt quite interesting. instead of starting from where it left off it tells you what has happened inbetween. The race is on for nuclear weapons but it only sees that one non-nuclear physicist that is actually bothered by the use of these destructive weapons. the major twists come as a real shock and the last part of the book will have you reading faster and faster at the speed of your heart. only one book has ever done this before and that is Lord of the Flies last chapter where ralph is getting hunted down. This book tells you of the new advances that are being achieved in the war while how the Race's forces are being stretched thinner and thinner. With the increasing ginger addiction the fleetlord must take actions but an increasing opposition against him could cost his title. The book has lots of people taking drastic measures as the increasing risk needing to be taken. but can the Race survive this with the increasing danger of the Japanese regime, the americans nuclear development, the russians socialism(which disgusts them), the british radar development and the german superiority in war, strategy and intelligence operatives. this is dangerous for both sides as humans that are willing to destroy the planet to avoid the Lizards acheiing their goal of enslaving the planet. The race unable to greatly destroy many parts of the planet as they need to colonise it. i have waited a month to get the third and fourth book and i just can't wait to continue reading. Ingenious idea and makes me want to read more of turtledove's books. Calum Dickinson

3.0 out of 5 stars Micro-managed alternative history, 5 May 2009
By Mr. G. Battle (Essex, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Turtledove's second instalment of his invasion saga continues to track the wartime heroics of a diverse set of characters spread across the globe. The narrative easily slips the reader back in to the action, with short chapters to re-introduce the myriad of characters. 'Tilting' is definitely a middle chapter, with plenty of character development and skirmishes that push the frontlines backwards or forwards. There are a few surprises in there, however, for the main 'Tilting' is laying foundations for the forthcoming material. Overall, it's too wordy, with too much redundant narrative. There's enough to keep you going; not enough to make this a notable book in the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars no a bad read, 12 Jun 2000
By A Customer
Spends a little too long going over the previous plots but soon gets back on track. It has no real ending though, just a bit of a cop out in my opinion. Turtledove has two other books coming out following on from this so perhaps that will resolve things more satisfactorily. But the story's beginning to get stale now.
