Product Description

Synopsis
Thanea, Christian daughter to the pagan King Loth in King Arthur's time, survives being set to sea in an oarless coracle as a druid sacrifice, and is taken in by St Serf as the only woman in his monastery. In due course, she produces a son who, with his mother, founds the great city of Glasgow.

3.0 out of 5 stars Far from his best, 16 Jun 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Druid Sacrifice (Paperback)
This is a product of Tranter's extreme old age, written nearly thirty years after his masterpiece the Bruce trilogy; and, sadly, his talents had declined somewhat. It feels patchy, the story does not hang together all that well, and I did not feel that the picture presented of Pictish paganism was authentic (Tranter did better at this in Columba). Worth a look, especially for diehard fans (among whom I number myself), but if you want a classic go and read The Clansman or some other work from his heyday.
