5.0 out of 5 stars A magical end to a magical tale., 5 Jan 2006
Following on from Mary Stewart's Merlin trilogy, this tells of the last days of Arthur, High King of England. While it follows the storyline set in The Crystal Cave, The Hollow Hills and The Last Enchantment, it is not told in the same first person style: Merlin is no longer the narrator or central character, in fact he's hardly in it at all.
That said, the writing is beautiful as ever, the story and characters simply compelling and the end as sad as its possible to be.
Stewart doesn't let the reader down, this book can be read as a stand alone novel, but is ideally read as the after the Merlin trilogy.
Get it, read it, love it and return to it again and again. Marvelous, magical and enchanting.

5.0 out of 5 stars marvellous, 28 May 2000
This review is from: The Wicked Day (Hardcover)
I have read all the books in the merlin trilogy and this along with the others was brilliant. While this one is slightly different, focusing on King Arthur. It brings the legend alive and allows the reader to experience it. Great
