Product Description

Review

"This is well written, covering the subject thoroughly. It is clearly the work of caring clinicians rather than dusty academics. I originally intended just to skim this book but found myself so impressed by it that I not only read it thoroughly but also bought copies for my counseling staff!" - Dr Robert Lefever (Addiction Treatment Today )

Product Description

This new edition continues the outstanding tradition of excellence for which Duker and Slade's Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia: How to Help is internationally recognised. Updated to meet contemporary concerns, this book is a 'must' for anyone who wants to do something practical about anorexia nervosa/bulimia.

Its unique contribution is the now widely acknowledged whirlpool theory which unifies the physiological and psychological aspects of the illness. This provides much needed alternatives for the helpers who are all too often drawn into coercing the sufferer to eat, which is psychologically destructive, or ignoring the physical aspects of the problem which can be dangerous. There is no other book that attends in such detail to the minute steps involved in leaving an anorexic/bulimic lifestyle behind.

As incidence of all forms of the illness continues to increase, this new edition is more relevant than ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended., 14 May 2009
By Someone (Somewhere) - See all my reviews
This book is brilliantly written. I have read it cover to cover. It is a helpful guide for those in the often difficult position of working with those who have eating disorders. As a person with an eating disorder, I found it highly refreshing and would recommend it to any and all who work with eating disorder clients / patients.
