4.0 out of 5 stars Mastering Counselling Theory -Ray Colledge, 1 Feb 2003
By A Customer
I am a first year student in a Certificate Counselling Course with a BSC HONS Degree as a baseline and with ambitions to be a full-time Counsellor. I found the Counselling Theory book to be an excellent reference for an overall view of the major counselling theories. The style of the book is ideal for both beginners and those furthering their careers in couselling to refresh in the major themes and fundamentals of Counselling. The book is well laid out with the major genres subdivided logically and easily referenced. The terminology and explanation was both clear yet sufficiently indepth to satisfy the more advanced practitioner or student.

Having read other similar but more 'waffly' texts on counselling theory explanations I believe Colledge has hit just the right spot and has been 'empathic'with the needs of student and teacher alike...well done!

On a practical note the book in paperback format is just the right size to carry about as an easy reference...ideal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great counselling book that has all the answers !, 1 April 2006

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This is a brilliant book if you are on a counselling course or are considering a career in counselling. It is one my favourite books on theorys as it explains everything you need to know in a great no nonsense way.It is excatly what you need for your course work, really helps you understand all the theorys and makes studying so easy.It has the perfect blend between just the right information and being accesable. Some books are just to heavy and weighty , others have not enough information- but this makes everything easier to understand and definatley helps you. It goes over all the major theorys- psychodynamic, humanistic, integrative, cognitive and eclestic. It explains the main pioneers, the theorys, counsellor /client relationship and techniques used. Not a word is wasted or waffled in this book and if I had to recommend only one book for counselling course ( from introduction to degree level) it would be this. A perfect book and one you can keep for life- its my new friend !

5.0 out of 5 stars New to Counselling?, 29 Jan 2009
By R. C. Andrew (New Milton, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book, in a word, is excellent and suitable for either the newcomer to the study of counselling theory, or those with previous experience.
For the newcomer it is written in clear and easily interpreted language, (Something sadly missing in many similarly targeted books.) For the experienced counsellor, it is a scource of information and clarification.
It covers a very wide range and is always easy to read and understand.
