Review
In this third in the Angel series, private investigator Ray Flowers is called in to help his old colleague Martin Galloway, who has been involved in a vigilante unit. When the vigilantes are involved in a raid on a suspected child smuggling and drugs outfit in their community it goes horribly wrong and Martin is suspended for withholding evidence. It becomes clear that a mysterious character, Angel Eyes, is masterminding the drugs scene, but when Martin gets a lead to Angel Eyes he is involved in a car crash and it is discovered he has been given a mysterious drug that sees him admitted to a psychiatric ward. Ray can't help getting involved, but he's hindered not only by Angel Eyes's trickery but by the disapproval of the offical police investigators. This is another clever and atmospheric crime novel by Jane Adams, whose writing gets better and better with every book. The characterization in this one is more profound, and the reader looks forward to many more of Flowers's dangerous assignments. (Kirkus UK)
