Product Description
Synopsis
This is the last "Three Oaks" mystery novel, this time centring on John Cunningham's partner, Henry Kitts. When Henry's god-daughter is duped out of #1.5 million by a fraudulent email scam and a local businessman is killed, Kitts wonders if a clever financial trickster has turned to murder.

From the Publisher
Henry Kitts visits his wealthy ward, Elizabeth Ilwand, on what should have been a routine visit. But it soon transpires that Elizabeth has been duped out of 1.5 million pounds by a fraudulent email scam.

While Elizabeth searches for ways to recoup the gigantic loss, Henry investigates the email in the hope of tracking down the fraudster. Who could have committed such a cold and calculated theft?

Then matters take a more chilling turn when Henry discovers the body of Maurice Cowieson, a local businessman, who appears to have been killed in a car crash. But upon further examination his injuries tell an altogether different story . . .

Has a clever financial trickster now turned his hand to murder . . . ?

4.0 out of 5 stars Scottish author's Thriller/Mystery is well up to standard, 9 Sep 2001
By A Customer
Gerald Hammond has published many excellent thrillers set in or near the fictional town of Newton Lauder in the Scottish Borders and rightly has a considerable following.

The first set featured a gunsmith then followed on to his daughter, friends and associates. A new series with a gundog trainer and breeder then linked to the first.

This time Henry, long retired husband of the gundog trainers business partner gets a starring role and solves the resulting mystery complete with email fraud, financial shenanigans and police infighting.

All our old friends get at least a walk on part which is satisfying, especilly since the preface tells us that this will be not be the author's last story but definitely his last mystery.

As always, a good story well told.
