Product Description

Product Description

This project is an introduction to AI suitable for both students and those wishing to gain a practical understanding of AI for use in their work. It describes the background history to AI, clarifies what the goals of AI are, and assesses current technology. There has been significant growth in real-world applications in recent years, for example detection of credit card fraud, building robots for industrial tasks and entertainment, securing networks from hackers, and making characters in computer games behave more human like. This book introduces the techniques used in these real world applications. All chapters include a range of exercises and suggested project work. Website support and an on-line solutions manual are also available.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have, 14 Nov 2003
By John (West Sussex, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Great book, the topics are up to date and they are clearly explained. Many of the other books are too dated (e.g. whole sections dedicated to expert systems and knowledge representation) and overly complicate simple topics.

At last it is nice to see decent coverage of today’s relevant techniques like Bayesian Networks and machine learning. I would recommend this as a prime text - another good book is Russell and Norvig’s.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great new AI book, 15 Oct 2003
By A Customer
This book is a great addition to my own library of AI books. It has good breadth and depth of coverage and would suit those who prefer a text that is less mathematically oriented compared to some other AI books. The book has a modern feel and gives more coverage than other AI books on certain key topics like neural networks. Overall this is a good modern text and worth reading!
