With 12 sections, this book is indeed a reference work in its own right. It gives results from any golf tournament of note and many tournaments of lesser significance. All the major championships and men's professional tournaments are included, together with women's professional events, amateur events and the top junior events.
The "Who's Who" in golf has many interesting selections of golfers--women and men, amateur and professional-- and golf writers, and it is a wealth of information for the golf enthusiast. Did you know, for instance, that McEvoy is the only British amateur golfer to complete 72 holes in the US Masters? Or that Sam Snead has 24 holes-in-one to his credit?
If you want to broaden your golfing experiences there is a comprehensive list of golf clubs in the British files, which supplies all the initial information you would need--fees, when visitors are welcome, etc--as well as the usual telephone numbers and course statistics, should you wish to travel further afield.
There is similar information for courses in Continental Europe including the less usual destinations such as Turkey. All this information would not be complete without the hotel guide--you can't play away if you don't know where to stay!
While the handbook no longer contains the rules of golf, Keith Mackie, who is responsible for the Royal & Ancient's members newsletter, does highlight the major rules talking points. There is also details of governing bodies and organisations which may be of interest.
In addition to this incredible amount of information, there are a number of articles on outstanding players, women's golf, and a number of other subjects plus reviews and dates for your diaries.
A mine of golfing trivia on all aspects of the game and its players, no self-respecting golfer should be without this handbook in its library. --Ben Naylor
