Product Description

Joe, struggling to survive his job in a high-powered law firm, is faced with the challenge of finding his childhood friend Jenna, who has been missing for four years. But has she disappeared through choice? Or is she under the influence of her husband, the restless troubled Chetwood? For Joe, the search is a matter of duty, but also of conscience - for he introduced them to each other, he was enthralled by them both...Helped by his prickly girlfriend Sarah, Joe manages to find the beautiful, faded Jenna, only to realise too late that he has set some terrible events in motion...

4.0 out of 5 stars A very enjoyable mystery, 28 Feb 2002
By A Customer
I received this book for Christmas but had put off reading it.. I am glad I changed my mind because I thouroughly enjoyed it. Yes, the premise is a bit iffy but it is suspenseful and well written..Ms. Francis' other books are far superior as I have just ordered two more. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a crime novel with an emphasis on plot-suspense and mystery-without the gore and graphic violence many authors of this genre seem to find necessary.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Death Divided, 23 Feb 2005
By Rich Milligan (Thatcham, Berkshire) - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)
This review is from: A Death Divided (Paperback)
Unlike some of the other reviewers here I found this book to be faster moving than some of the other Claire Francis books I've read and I found myself enjoying this one much more as a result.

The premise of the plot, i.e. the hunt for the missing Jenna was rather Robert Goddard-like in construction, with the main character, Joe, having to follow clues up and down the country and it was this part of the novel that was most enjoyable.

Certainly I take the criticism that the plot is rather far fetched in places and does take a couple of leaps of logic on behalf of the reader to keep track of things but it is by no means implausible and doesn't detract from the entertainment value of the book.

Where I felt the book was exceptionally good was in the relationship interplay between the characters. The souring love affair between Joe and Sarah was at the start of the book excellently written and really conjured up the correct feelings of melancholy.

All in all, after a couple of disappointments with other Claire Francis books, this one has decided me to try some of her others.

1.0 out of 5 stars The worst book I have read in a long while., 18 Nov 2001
By A Customer
I enjoyed earlier books by this author, but this one is truly disappointing. A very weak story with implausible, poorly developed characters. The book does not succeed to hold the reader's interest, the dialogues are predictable and unimaginative. The story does not suceed to create any suspense. Really, don't waste your money on this one!
