Mail on Sunday
Follett's grasp of character and motive puts him streets ahead of this thriller rivals..

Product Description
Jealousies, distrust, and hidden rivalries uncover dark secrets, then a dozen vials of a deadly virus go missing. As a blizzard whips out of the north on Christmas Eve, several people converge on a remote family house. Stanley Oxenford, director of a pharmaceutical research company, has everything riding on a drug he is developing to fight a lethal virus. Several others are interested in his success too: his children, at home for Christmas with their offspring, have their eyes on the money he will make; Toni Gallo, head of his security team and recently forced to resign from the police, is betting her career on keeping it safe; an ambitious local television reporter sniffs a story, even if he has to bend the facts to tell it; and a violent trio of thugs are on their way to steal it, with a client already waiting. As the storm worsens and the group is laid under siege by the elements, the emotional sparks crackle and dark secrets are revealed that threaten to drive Stanley and his family apart for ever. Filled with startling twists, "Whiteout" is the ultimate knife-edge drama from an international bestselling author who is in a class by himself. 'Few writers can come up with the thrills more effectively than Ken Follett' - "Guardian". 'A new breed of thriller...Follett drags readers to the very edge of their seats and holds them captive until the very last villain is satisfactorily dispatched' - "Publishers weekly."

5.0 out of 5 stars once again original in a familiar framework, 10 Nov 2005
By Ramses "Alexandria's Library" (Egypt) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Whiteout (Hardcover)
I have reall all Follett's books and they all have a recurring theme of good-versus-bad, boy-meets-girl, cat-chases-mouse. What makes him so great is the setting where this is imposed, being always different, surprising and original (mostly - eg not Jackdaws ...). This time it succeeds again, and the story is totally engrossing and gripping. I had a very good time and I think anyone who likes thrillers will as well.
Buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Would make a great movie!, 11 Jun 2005
Ken Follett is a thriller writer with a very impressive body of work behind him. What I particularly like about him - about from his sheer readability - is that he maintains a very high consistency rating and always leaves the reader satisfied. And satisfied they will be with this one too.
It is a modern techno-thriller which follows an audacious attempt to steal a top secret virus form a remote Scottish laboratory on Christmas Eve The plan for the theft seems well worked out but the two things the criminals weren't banking on are the determination of the lab's head of security to prevent a theft and more importantly the terrible blizzard that totally changes everyone's plans over that dramatic Christmas period.
Told at a cracking pace and full of memorable characters I had the feeling almost from page one that this could make a great film - or even a TV mini-series.
Follett remains one of our best parishioners at producing lively, believable stories which keep you on the edge of your seat and there are enough twist, turns and intriguing sub-plots here to satisfy any of his legion of fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Losing his touch?, 29 Oct 2006
By S. Thomson "pip-thomson" (Sunny Surrey, U.K) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As an ardent fan of Mr Follett over the years, I always eagerly await the publication of anything he writes. Such was the case with Whiteout. While written in true to form excellent style, the storyline was rather predictable (unusual with Mr F) and I found myself somewhat disappointed. I would still recommend reading this book - but would warn you not to expect the exceptional high standard of previous novels.
