'This rather fine novel will not just appeal to males'

5.0 out of 5 stars Charlie big laughs, 21 Jul 2002
By Carolyn (London) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Charlie Big Potatoes (Paperback)
I can't speak highly enough of this book - at last, someone who doesn't treat the reader like an idiot or a client or a 'follower'; a book that speaks the truth about the highs and lows of love, drugs, and the bittersweetness of life. This is a book that has characters who do nice and nasty things, senseless and loving things. So often in books characters and stories are written larger and suffer because of it but in CBP you go inside the mind of a normal person being twisted by his own fears and the expectations of the 'normal' people around him. It is endearing and brave, and for me, works wonders.

5.0 out of 5 stars SPUD-U-LIKE, 21 Oct 2003
By A Customer
Unlike so many 'Dick Lit' books these days, Charlie Big Potatoes makes you stop and think. Not content to follow a simple 'beer, booze and babes' formula, this book has something to say about the stresses and strains of the modern world - we chase only pleasure, we get only pain; at some point we must step back and look at the big picture. That's not to say it's 'worthy' or dull - it isn't. The plot moves along at speed, and there's plenty to make you laugh out loud or weep in despair. And all for less than the price of a budget cd. Mind you the author looks a bit scary on the back cover!

5.0 out of 5 stars great book, 30 Jul 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Charlie Big Potatoes (Paperback)
About Charlie, a lad-mag journalist on the verge of marriage, coping with his own expectations and those of everyone around him, as best he can.
I thought this would be just another bloke-lit book but it turned out to be a cut above - intelligent, warm, real and funny. Highly recommended.
