NEW YORK, NEW YORK . . .

Cyrus is a millionaire recluse. Oh, and a serial killer. His first victims are Gus and Susie Niedermeyer, a newly married couple who knew apartment hunting in New York would be hell, they just didn't think it would end their short lives.

Tye is a beautiful young woman from London, who imagines she can trade her cover girl looks for a free stay in a downtown loft.

Quinn is a writer who's out of ideas and running out of luck. He wants to keep a foothold in Manhattan without losing his shirt - and his girlfriend.

Marion Neidermeyer is a determined mother dead set on hunting down her vanished son and daughter-in-law.

Cyrus, Quinn, Tye and Marion - all floating through New York, all about to collide in this brilliant black comedy that will make you think twice about ever answering a classified ad . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars A compelling mix of humour and chilling fear set in NYC., 13 Aug 2001
By A Customer
The characters are a wonderful mix developed in a style refreshingly, reassuring that we all know folks, almost like these. Best of all you care for even the quirky ones.

London/ New York; the transatlantic flavour exists even though set in the Big Apple. An imaginative story it becomes logical as people and events are woven together with skill. I could't put the book down and am delighted to recommend it. I enjoy the author's style and have read her first three novels. Her vivid, visual descriptions continue to bring me back for more. I was both laughing and scared silly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hell of a good read, 15 Mar 2007

New York is not a very hospitable place. Strangers walk the street not caring what happens to anyone but themselves. This makes some people's lives easier, especially if you are a serial killer or someone who cons people into paying you rent for a flat you do not owe. 'Hell's Kitchen' follows several people's lives as they struggle to find accommodation in New York whilst a serial killer is on the loose.

This is a very well written and fun novel that looks from the POV of a killer as well as potential victims. Niles is very astute at creating interesting characters and making them fit into the New York environment. At times a complex story, Niles successfully weaves the lives of several characters until they eventually meet in an excellent conclusion. My only misgiving for the book was that the characters were probably too separate for too long and the book went on for slightly longer than necessary. However, overall 'Hell's Kitchen' was an interesting take on the crime genre that was written in a very entertaining way.
