Breezy, fun and fantastic, 20 May 2006
Mariarty continues the same fun form of narrative voice she used in her previous books through letters, transcripts, philosophical musings and even a short autobiography of the main character. Its plot is slightly dafter than that of the first two books, but it is just as insightful about the teenage mind and contains fresh, vibrant characters that are engaging and never become tiresome. Bindy, the main character, is sweet and likeable even as she blunders through life and fails to understand her peers. Moriarty's strength is these likeable characters she creates and her ability to give each one an individual voice, so rarely found in teen books. She writes with compassion, understanding, and is, above all, deeply humourous, making her books endlesly enjoyable - Becoming Bindy Mackenzie enjoys a continuation of this wonderful style with an interesting new character. It's essential reading for anyone who enjoyed Moriarty's first two books, and should attract new fans, too.

Humorous, Unpredictable and a Fantastic Plot, 16 Sep 2006
"Becoming Bindy Mackenzie" is a book about a kind and extremely smart year eleven student. Bindy has always tried to help her peers but one day she realises that actually they might not like her! So Bindy comes up with a plan and records her doings in her scrapbook but the scrapbook begins to reveal a bizarre mystery. Bindy needs the help of some friends but has she got any?
Jaclyn Moriarty writes in the style of letters and transcripts like her previous books. She makes you interested in this unusually girl, Bindy, from the very first page making it an enjoyable read. This book is humorous, interesting and unpredictable with a good plot. In this book we see the return of Elizabeth (Feeling Sorry for Celia) and Emily (Finding Cassie Crazy), this makes it much more enjoyable for those who have read the previous books, and makes you love these characters instantly (no matter what they do) but if you haven't read the other books it doesn't matter, you'll still love the characters. It isn't my favourite book by Jaclyn Moriarty (Finding Cassie Crazy is my favourite) but I still think it's great and would recommend it. Once you've started it, you have to keep reading till it's finished.

Sprinkled with clues, 10 Jun 2006
Having read Jaclyn Moriarty's 2 previous novels and loved them, I obviously had to read this one. It didn't disappoint. As with both Feeling Sorry For Celia and Finding Cassie Crazy, Moriarty sprinkles clues throughout her writing that seems insignificant at the time, but later, as everything comes together, makes you go 'oh! of course!'
Admittedly, Becoming Bindy Mackenzie has a slightly more off-the-wall storyline than the other 2, but the mixture of bittersweet teenage drama and humour is perfectly combined.
I also like the continuity from her previous 2 books - the main character of Feeling Sorry For Celia and one of the main characters of Finding Cassie Crazy feature quite prominently in Becoming Bindy Mackenzie - but nothing about the storyline of Becoming will be lost if you've not read the previous 2 books. That just adds to the enjoyment.
All in all, a great read.
