Product Description

Review

'A rare gift... a book whose appeal extends equally to adults.' The Guardian

Product Description

I was sick of Gordon Barraclough. Sick of his bullying. And I was sick of him being a good footballer. 'Listen, Barraclough. My uncle is Bobby Charlton.' 'You're a liar.' I was. 'I'm not. Cross my heart and hope to die.' I spat on my hand. If I'd dropped down dead on the spot I wouldn't have been surprised. 'Funny and moving...a rare gift.' - "Guardian".

5.0 out of 5 stars An essential part of any supply teacher's kit !, 9 Oct 2001
By A Customer
Brilliantly funny, sad, evocative short stories, and as a supply teacher, this book is an essential part of my kit,as I can guarantee one of these tales at the end of the afternoon will have any group of junior children riveted. Special favourites are "Balaclava Boy" and the title story.

IT'S NOT ONLY ENTERTAINING, BUT IT TEACHES MORALS TOO. SO IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A BOOK FOR YOUR KIDS...THIS IS IT!!

5.0 out of 5 stars boys, 30 Oct 2000
Boys do not read for fun like girls; this is probably true. Give this to your boys, read it to them and enjoy them enjoyoing fiction. Only the best quality writing will work and there is nothing better than this modern classic.
