Amazon.co.uk Review

When Dinnie is 13 she is whisked away to Switzerland by her Aunt and Uncle, leaving her parents, her wayward brother and her young and very pregnant sister behind her. She feels like she has been kidnapped by strangers, but as she starts to make new friends at an exclusive, international boarding school she begins to make some sense of things. From the moment Dinnie is "kidnapped" to the moment she discovers her true self amongst the chaos and disorder that surrounds her, Bloomabilty never loses pace, yet cunningly ensures that the reader is aware of every painful minute of Dinnie's life in Switzerland.

Sharon Creech, author of Chasing Redbird and the Newbury Medal-winning Walk Two Moons, once again proves her dazzling talent in this alluring, cleverly observed novel by taking the tricky subject of growing up and turning it into a tale that is at once heart-breaking and heart- warming. --Susan Harrison --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description

The second life of Dinnie Doone began when she was thirteen. In Dinnie's first life she moved home a dozen times. In each new town her family landed in deeper trouble. Then, without warning, she was snatched by total strangers and taken far away to the other side of the world.

Dinnie arrives in Switzerland and becomes a pupil at an international boarding school high in the mountains. Separated from her family, she starts a new life that's strange and frightening . . . beautiful and full of adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Once I started this book I couldn't stop!, 25 Sep 2001
By A Customer
This was the first Sharron Creech book I read and from the first chapter on I was hooked! It took me an afternoon to read it, and recently I picked it up and read it again. Dinnie Doone, the main caracter is in the same situation I am in at the moment. I have been taken from England to a part of France very close to the Swiss and Italian boarders. Being very confused Dinnie doesn't know whether she should be taking this advantage of living at an American boarding school in the Swiss mountains or trying to resist it. The story is full of adventures, friendships, and even has a touch of romance. Iwould recomend this book to anyone who loves a good book because this one is great!.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is great!, 4 Aug 2001

I loved this book! It was the second Sharon Creech book I read (Absolutely Normal Chaos was the first), and I loved it! I went back to the library the other day, and I read it again.

It's about a girl who's family moves all around America. Then she goes to Switzerland, where her uncle is the headmaster of an international school. She's in the mountains, and she makes lots of friends.

This book is brilliant! I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bloomability is another fantastic read!, 29 April 2001

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Bloomability (Paperback)
From Associate Student Reviewer Karrie G: Bloomability is a beautiful, touching book of a young woman wishing to find her true self, instead of trying to act like everyone else to fit in as she has always done before.

All her life, Domenica, has moved from place to place as her father drags his family across America, searching for the right place raise his children & the right job.

When Domenica is thirteen her rich grandmother from her mother's side, insists Domenica make something of herself in a Swiss school. Reluctantly Domenica leaves with her aunt & uncle, again hating herself for always fitting in. To her surprise Domenica starts to like Switzerland & the boarding school. She makes friends with a fellow American Lila, who is dramatic, stubborn & sure of herself. Domenica begins to discover more about her own self.

Bloomability is a good read. What I liked most about it was that all the characters are special in their own way. Like real people they have better & worse sides & despite how different they are, come to like each other.
