Product Description

Product Description
Aged 24, Damian Shaw's future now seems nothing more than a trek towards hell and damnation, all because his girlfriend Jo has set him free to hurl himself into an orgy of laddish excess. When his supposed friends contrive to defile Jo's memory with careless remarks, he decides to wreak vengeance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure escapism, 5 April 2000
By A Customer
A compelling page turner - apart from the long opening which builds slowly and the climactic close, Jarvis comes at you in short literary bursts. You're in a club, you're in a pub, you're back in a club, which makes this a very hard book to put down. Never a dull moment in this tale, but thank heavens I'm all grown up now because this lifetsyle would surely just wear you down?

5.0 out of 5 stars Naughty ... but NICE!, 7 Jan 2000
By A Customer
So hip, you can almost hear them compiling the movie soundtrack as you're reading this - LOTS of dance music, shades of New Order (reminiscent of 'The Beach' or 'Trainspotting', anyone?). Zips along at pace and, with short sharp chapters and a snappy dialogue to boot, I must admit I found emales (note: lower case, very hip) totally unputdownable. Repetitive it may be = clubs, drugs, sex, more clubs, more drugs, more sex = but in 'Dame' Jarvis has created atrue ANTI-HERO for the CHEMICAL GENERATION, not necessarily likeable but strangely appealing nevetheless. You may just hate all the characters in this book but they'll definitely show you a good time along the way and there's more than enough potential for a follow up ... please?

4.0 out of 5 stars A great book that you can get as much out of as you like., 16 Sep 1999
By A Customer
In Damien, Jarvis has created a very real though not necessarily likeable central character.

For me, this book is more about misguided loyalty and the danger of bloody-mindedness than about being a sucessful 24-year old in London.

You can relate to may of the themes and ideas therein; People let you down when you're not expecting them to. You let people down and don't feel any remorse. No matter how self-assured you are you can be wrong. You question your own judgement. Very Real.

I admit that Damien got on my nerves at times, but I've no doubt that he was supposed to. This is testament to the depth of his character and the vivid scene that Jarvis has set.

This is a book that you should read twice.
