Product Description

Product Description

When small-time criminals tangle with big-time gangsters and territory-hungry Yardies, the city streets run with blood - in the best tradition of a master of urban suspense. It begins with a murderous chase through the streets of Kingston, Jamaica. When a local hard man escapes, the action moves to an unsuspecting Britain where Yardie drug dealers and criminals begin to die horribly. Meanwhile a small-time crook, Frank Newton, has gathered his posse to pull off the robbery that will finally give them financial independence - unaware that half the haul belongs to a London gang boss who knows who they are. In return for their lives they have to eliminate a merciless new Yardie chief, while they themselves are being shadowed by a tenacious police team. With millions of pounds now at stake, the risks are escalating, violence is soaring - and all is on course for a massive bloodbath

4.0 out of 5 stars Exit Wounds, 9 Dec 2004
By burnthouse (Mabe Burnthouse, Cornwall UK) - See all my reviews
This is one of Shaun's best books, in my opinion. He manages to combine human emotion with absolute gut renching terror.

The characters are introduced and explored as the book develops, compelling the reader to turn the page. As always Shaun descrbes horror in a way that leaves little to the imagination, not unlike 'Assassin' in this respect.

I read this book in a weekend, what a ride. The film of the same name is an insult.

Read this book and hold tight to your stomach for an amazing ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars the undisputed master of terror is back!, 4 Jul 2002
When small time crook Frank Newton and his guys discover that their latest heist hit the wrong payroll van, it is already too late. Big time mob-boss Billy Parker, whose money they steal, and his bloodhounds give them one final choice: to wipe out the competitive Yardies under the leadership of dreadlocked "Papa Ernie" Codling, who have just arrived from Jamaica or to lose their small time lives is up to them now...
I don't want to give away too much of the plot that, although simple, contains some surprising twists. To me, the most important thing concerning Shaun's latest urban thriller is this: after having read newer novels like "Knife Edge" or "Stolen Angels" it came to my mind that Shaun might have lost some of his former aggressive style in writing, because they were presentable to a wider audience in terms of a massive decrease in exploding violence. With the release of "Exit Wounds" he undoubtedly returned to the style of the old days. The book that can be compared to his masterpiece "Deadhead" without being a simple copy of it, that surpasses even "White Ghost" in terms of bloody shoot-outs, cannot be put aside. The concluding 150 pages belong to the best stuff Shaun has ever written. All the readers who like the Peckinpah-movies as much as the author does will find more hints at Shaun's favourite film "The Wild Bunch" than in any other of his works. A line out of a song of one of Shaun's favourite bands describes the book best: "highly polished metal, the oil makes it gleam, fill the terror chamber, your mind begins to scream".
