5.0 out of 5 stars Superb 'pulp' fiction for any age group, 6 Mar 2002
The story basically revolves around a post-apocalyptic word, where a strange alien race have taken over after an implied nuclear war wipes out the best part of our civilisation. What is left of humanity survive in small villages, constantly in fear of 'the slavers' - an alien race which arrived some time after the nuclear war and took over the planet. The hero, Finn Ferral, is a huntsman for his village, and without ruining any elements of the story he embarks on a journey to rescue his father and sister who have been abducted by the Slavers, and along the way he makes some startling discoveries.

The writing is open & pacy (as with all of Hill's work), characterization is extremely good, and like his Last Legionary books Hill seems to cram an awful lot into a relatively small number of pages. This trilogy is not quite up to the standard of the landmark Last Legionary series (I'd strongly recommend you hunt them out, although like a lot of Hill's books they seem very difficult to get hold of at present) but it still merits 5 stars in it's own right - the only criticism you could make (and this is also true of Last Legionary) is that the books are too short - once finished you'll find yourself wishing Hill had written more. The sequels are : People of the Claw (originally Warriors Of the Wasteland) and Alien Citadel.
