What a fantastic book!! I couldn't put it down. As i read the opening chapter I knew I wouldnt be able to close it until I had reached the back cover. The story is gripping, exciting and enthralling. You really do believe you are with the characters and can feel their emotions. The story is well written and with each twist your heart rate increases. A truly great book that you will be unable to forget.

Why had I never heard of this author ?

This was the thought shadowing me as I read my way through this accomplished novel. I had picked it up by chance when searching the shelves for something new.

There are several things that this book has that make it easy for me to recommend it so highly. The first is Joseph Glass's writing. His style is easy and flowing, allowing you to immerse yourself in his story. Secondly, his story tugs playfully at your mind as you try to solve the mysteries along with his characters. At no point does the tale die, leaving the end of the book to be a mopping up of loose ends. It picks you up and carries you along with the reader experiencing a mixture of joy and terror as it unfolds.

His lead character, Dr Susan Shader, is a gifted psychiatrist who consults with the Chicago Police Department. I was intrigued that Dr Shader is also a psychic and the author deals with the doubts and cynicism faced by such a person with clarity and intelligence. What strikes you from the first word is that this is a real person, who has been well thought out. Glass's characters are not super heroes, but real people doing the best that they can.

This tale of murder and ritual is fascinating and the hunt for the mysterious "Undertaker" is a riveting read.

I can't wait to get my hands on this author's other book, "Eyes".

BTW: For those interested parties Joseph Glass is the pseudonym of author Joseph Libertson.
