5.0 out of 5 stars The most exciting first collection of poetry of the 90s, 19 May 1999
By A Customer
The genius of this Scots poet is for finding the sensually charged moment - in a raked northern landscape, in a sexual encounter - and depicting it in language that is simultaneously spare and ample, and reminiscent of early Heaney or Hughes. The reader is almost blinded by the incandescent authority of these poems; the heat of the language is dazzling. This is work of grave elegance, lyrical beauty and enormous power.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic stuff - really moving, 20 Jul 2000
By A Customer
I saw Mr Robertson read his poems recently and bought his book as a result. It is not simple poetry but more than re-pays the effort. I find I can go back to poems again and again and keep finding new things in them. He is also an amazing reader! Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful, powerful lyric poetry, 22 Aug 1999
By A Customer
A Painted Field by Robin Robertson is the best new book of poetry that I have read in a very long time. The poems, often about love and loss, are beautifully made and have a powerful, visceral effect - long after the book is put down. I would happily recommend this collection to anyone who is interested in poetry, language or the human spirit.
