4.0 out of 5 stars fun, tenderness and a very light hand from a top portraitist, 14 Dec 2000
You like Elizabeth jane Howard? You will love this book. Otherwise, it's a good place to start. The hero is - unusually - a man, but a man of such startling and endearing sensitiviness as we usually do not think can exist in any male on earth after their 20th birthday. Indeed, Gavin is 30 but also by many standards a teeneger yet. He discovers himself and a bit of the world in a delighful, tender gallery of unforgettable London characters that will become as close to you as they are to him. Have fun! (I made the mistake of lending my copy of the book, so I'm here to buy it again...)
