3.0 out of 5 stars A good story, 16 Dec 2001
By A Customer
I enjoyed this book. It tells a good story and I did want to continue reading it even when i got to the end of my journey to work. But to maintain that level of interest I had to suspend belief. I don't know if English women were empoyed undercover to work with the French resistance during the Second World War, but if they did, I am sure they didn't fall in love with German officers. It is an unlikely love story. That said, the activities of the resistance and the skill of the writing do make it worth a read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Read, 12 April 2008
By Mrs. Judith Lugg (Wolverhampton, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A lovely read, if you are willing to suspend a little credibility. I have read many books in this genre both fact and fiction and know that the research must have been considerable and also the French used is CORRECT and idiomatic, which makes a refreshing change!
In fact, women WERE sent into France from here during World War 2 and excellent agents they made.
The ending was rather weak and could have been a little longer with a little more explanation - you have to read the epitaph and memorial at the end to find the eventual fate of Evelyn.
However, the book evoked the terror, unbelievable bravery and patriotism of the ordinary French citizen and the incredibly brave agents who went out there to help in the struggle against The Third Reich to a high degree.
All in all, a good read and I would recommend that anyone read it.
