5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful and haunting, anything but a light read., 31 Aug 2000
By Mrs S.A. Rowbury (Staines, Middlesex United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This is a thoroughly well-written book that sort of creeps up on you and takes you in its grip. Detailing one weekend in the life of Jerome Corcoran, a businessman in Union City, New York, at times it moves slowly and is laboriously detailed, but the finale is so chilling that you then realise every word has been worth it. A powerful study of one man's personality and motivations, with plenty to say about family, religion, sex and death along the way. Be prepared for this book to scare you.
