3.0 out of 5 stars Good fun, but not as light as Wilt, 14 Oct 2001
By A Customer
The great pursuit revolves around a publicity trip which goes horribly wrong. All the ingredients of a good farce are in here - rioting, false identities, grotesque characters, mad passions, trips to police stations and a bit of suspected arson and attempted murder thrown in too. The plot is promising, but somehow it's just not that funny. I enjoyed Wilt, Vintage stuff and Porterhouse Blue, and have read a few of his other books, and I thought that this didn't quite measure up. But it's still worth a read on a rainy afternoon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read, 13 May 2006
By BC (Warwickshire, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Great Pursuit (Paperback)
This book is an excellent read, and will pass the time quickly with the fast moving plot. I would say that it is not as good as his Wilt books, or indeed some of his other stand-alone books though.

However it is still well worth a read, as Tom Sharpe's poorer books are still better than many people's best books.

This book is well worth four stars, with many comical moments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Black humour at its best, 26 Jan 2004
This review is from: The Great Pursuit (Paperback)
If you've enjoyed Tom Sharpes other books then this one's a must too. If you've never read a Tom Sharpe book then this is a good one to start with as it's not as extreme in places as some of his other books but is still very funny.
