Product Description

Product Description

The Human Brain is a single-authored core neuroscience text that describes the structure and function of the brain and nervous system. The text covers the neuroanatomy that medical and other health care students need, with expanded coverage of neurophysiology and inclusion of clinical content that provides real-life application of neuroanatomy and neurophysiologic concepts to clinical neurologic disorders.

Its readability and enhanced 4-colour illustrations make this a favourite among both students and faculty.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book for a hard subject!, 15 May 2007
The human brain - one of the most important topics in medicine and yet one of the most poorly understood by students...myself included! Fear not...help is on the way! This book is great for breaking down a complex topic into easily digestible chunks - to aid understanding and therefore learning.

The book is well laid-out - using large, colour diagrams, tables and headings to break up the text and keep the reader's attention. A wide variety of images including pathology specimens, line diagrams, and radiological investigations, make the subject come to life. The clinical context and neuro-dictionary at the end are particularly useful.

This book will enable you to build a solid, core understanding of a hard subject and will serve you well as you continue to dip in and out of it throughout medical school and your professional careers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great pictures, but not so good text, 22 Feb 2006
By Anders Rasmussen (Lund, Sweden) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is printed on high-quality photo paper, giving it a nice feel to it. There are many pictures, all with beautiful colors. Since starting my PhD I have used it frequently to get a good overview.

I would have given it five stars if the text was as good as the pictures, but unfortunately that is not the case. When this was used as course literature on my neuroanatomy course in Santa Barbara, virtually everyone complained that the text was bad. However, having gone back to it, I would say that it is not so bad really, perhaps it is just a little bit dense.

In sum, buy this book if you need great pictures.
