This is the definitive guide to troubleshooting the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database engine, direct from the people who know it most intimately: the people who wrote it, designed it, and support it. SQL Server expert Ken Henderson, author of the best-selling Guru’s Guides to SQL Server, has assembled a “dream team” of SQL Server developers and support engineers to provide in-depth troubleshooting and diagnostic information that has never been documented before: information that would be impossible to get without access to Microsoft’s own source code.

From caching to clustering, query processing to Service Broker, this book will help you address even the toughest problems with database engine operations. Each chapter begins with a brief architectural overview of a key SQL Server component, then drills down into the most common problems users encounter, offering specific guidance on investigating and resolving them. You’ll find comprehensive, in-depth chapters on

5.0 out of 5 stars "for anyone who wants to really understand the inner workings of the product this book is a must", 22 Jan 2007
By B. Mildren (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've previously purchased Ken Henderson's excellent Guru's Guide series, and this book continues in the same vein.. ..this isn't a general guide to sql, it's also not really for beginners, however it does provide answers to some sticky questions and potentially could be a godsend to any dba as a quick reference in those situations, but it's not solely a troubleshooting guide and the real value in this book is in the level of detail provided. For anyone who really wants to understand the inner workings of the product, this book is a must. The book is a multi-author effort, with each author writing a specific chapter. The authors are from the Microsoft Dev Team and CSS Team and they really do provide a definitive guide to troubleshooting SQL 2005. I've already read two excellent chapters on Waiting & Blocking Issues, and Memory Issues and look forward to reading the rest. Very much recommended.
