Product Description

Scott Kelby, the best-selling Photoshop author in the world today, once again takes this book to a whole new level as he uncovers the latest, most important and most exciting new Adobe Photoshop CS2 techniques for digital photographers.

This major update to this award-winning, record-breaking book does something for digital photographers that's never been done before--it  cuts through the bull and shows you exactly "how to do it." It's not a bunch of theory; it doesn't challenge you to come up with your own  settings or figure it out on your own. Instead, Scott shows you step-by-step the exact techniques used by today's cutting-edge digital  photographers and, best of all, he shows you, flat-out, exactly which settings to use, when to use them, and why. That's why the previous  version of this book took the digital photography world by storm.

But now, his new CS2, version is even bigger, even better, and exposes even more of the pros most closely guarded secrets, including a special chapter which shows, for the first time ever, step-by-step how to how to set-up Photoshop's color management. He does it by throwing out all the theory, all the techno-babble, and all the confusing charts and graphs and instead just shows you exactly what you need to do (and

nothing more).

LEARN HOW THE PROS DO IT

Each year Scott trains thousands of professional photographers how to use Photoshop, and almost without exception they have the same questions, the same problems, and the same challenges--and that's exactly what he covers in this book. You'll learn:

  • The sharpening techniques the pros really use (there's an entire chapter on, just this!)
  • The pros tricks for fixing the most common digital photo problems fast!
  • The step-by-step set-up for getting what comes out of your printer to match exactly what you saw on screen
  • The retouching secrets of how the pros retouch portraits
  • How to process raw digital camera images (plus how to take advantage of all the new Camera Raw features of CS2!)
  • How to color correct any photo without breaking a sweat (you'll be amazed at how easy it is–once you know the secret)
  • A whole chapter on the latest, most requested Photoshop special effects
How to reduce noise, deal with lens problems, avoid halos, and more
  • How to show your work like a pro!
  • Plus a host of shortcuts, workarounds, and slick "insider" tricks to send your productivity through the roof!

If you're a digital photographer and you're ready to learn the "tricks of the trade"--the same ones that today's leading pros use to correct,  edit, sharpen, retouch, and present their work; then this is the book for you.

"The Professional Photographer magazine Hot1 Awards represent a must-have list of this year's hottest, most sought-after new products. Selected by a panel of working professional photographers, the awards are chosen based on innovation, overall quality and value for price. In its seventh year, the Professional Photographer Hot1 Awards are one of the biggest product competitions in the industry, representing 60 categories of gear from a couple hundred different companies."

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Photoshop book so far, 24 Nov 2006
By J. A. Nicholas "xsjah" (Kent, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've never written a review for a book before but this one I felt I really had to. After struggling with the boring, technical monotony of Martin Evening's CS2 for Photographers, this book was an absolute joy. I can see some people have commented negatively about Scott's humour but for me that was part of the appeal. I actually read all the content of the pages rather than skimming the examples. Everything I needed to know for using Photoshop for my photography editing is in this book and it's well laid out with good clear examples. Most importantly for me it gave me clear information on how to get my printer to produce what I can see on screen. It did this without being too technical and getting into a level of colour management that, as an amateur photographer, I wouldn't have a clue about.

One of my primary goals was to get what I saw on screen out of my very expensive new printer without using a gallon of ink in test prints. This book delivered. Explaining ICC profiles and how to use them. Something which both Epson and the paper manufacturer I use failed to do.

There are some great techniques in this book. I especially like the ones for portrait editing and changing your image to strong b/w and duo-toning. A really inspiring book. I read half of it in one evening it was so compelling.

My advise is, if you've got your digital SLR, Photoshop and decent printer this is the book for you. Amaze your friends and family with the results (especially if you make your Mum look 10 years younger!!)

Nice one Scott!

5.0 out of 5 stars at last ....., 26 Jan 2006
By S. Jones "Steve Jones" (Oxford, UK) - See all my reviews

I have owned several Photoshop books including some described as "the bible", and I find the biggest problem with them is this: they go into great depths conveying how much the author knows about the subject, but when it comes to telling you a good place to start for yourself - "well that's something you will learn from experience - now go ahead and get 15 years under your belt, like I had to".

In this book Scott Kelby actually gives you the benefit of his experience - take the unsharp mask for instance, after a simple explanation of what the controls do he then gives you a range of settings that he personally prefers - some for interior shots, some for portraits, some for graphics etc. This is invaluable - I buy books to learn how the application will affect my images, not have a theory lesson as an author congratulates himself on how much he knows about Photoshop.

Great book

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, 17 Aug 2006
By M. Gilpin - See all my reviews

This book will help you get the best out of this software. Other photoshop books while excellent, are often a little over technical.KELBYS humour may be a little grating in the book but once you know the effect you are looking for it never gets in the way. This book is hugely accessible. Essentially, you identify the effect you are trying to achieve and KELBY has a section for this and you follow the steps through 1-10 or whatever.Little assumed knowledge is expected in any effect. ( some books teach you something at the start but the effect you want to do is at the centre, so you need to read everything up front before you can do the effect. This book may not be advanced enough for some but it is excellent as an introduction. Even a year later with two other Adobe CS2 books, it is still the only book i reach for.
