All of the exciting features in DVD Studio Pro merit in-depth treatment: menu creation, chapter markers, scripting, MPEG encoding, asset organization, linking, and output formatting are all clearly explained. Plus, the book reveals previously undocumented DVD Studio Pro secrets, such as how to write advanced scripts using SPRMs and how to burn DVD-RW discs directly from within the software. DVD Studio Pro 1.5 for Macintosh: Visual QuickPro Guide picks up where the manual leaves off with complete coverage of AC-3 encoding, including tutorials on determining the dialog normalization value and compression profile for AC-3 audio streams. This handy Visual QuickPro Guide is a reference tool and a start-to-finish tutorial that will grow with you as you master one of the most powerful tools available for creating DVDs on the Mac.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book !, 9 Oct 2002
By Jake (London, UK) - See all my reviews
Wow get this book right now. I've been using dvdsp for over a year now and wanted to get to grips with scripting plus gain more knowledge in the technology as a whole.

If all you want to do is make a basic dvd, get to know your way around the app and don't want to get too deep into the ins and outs of dvd world, no problem. You're covered and there's no need to read cover to cover. You will still get some great advice for real world authoring and find out exactly how to prepare you assets.

For those who want to dig deeper you will find all the info you need. It will also make books like DVD Demystified(second edition) not a must buy or at least alot easier to swallow. DVD structure is covered and more advanced scripting from play all tracks button to using System Parameter Registers(SPRMs).

It is a very thorough book in easy to swallow chunks. It helps to have Photoshop 7 and FCPro 3 but not essential. The book covers how to use these tools for your asset prep and does yet another great job of explaining how to go about it all. Wether its flattening a photoshop layer to keep a dropshadow, designing for a widscreen(16:9) dvd or using BBEdit for subtitle streems.

You will get some truley great information regardless of where you are in the dvd authoring world. Full of real world advice and how you have to go about achieving what you want. When it is and isn't ok to trust the DVD preview mode and Apple DVD player for example. Having grown used to spending double this price for books I cant understand why this book doesn't cost more(I know it's not full colour but I hadn't noticed till now) and it will be sitting by my PowerMac/Books for quite some time....well till version 2 realease anyway.

Finally, there are screen shots to help you every step of the way and its all done using OS X which is not a problem as far as I'm concerend. Hardware setup is there too so if you've had problems you may find out why at this point as well as info regarding DLT which some may find usefull for themselves or advising clients on which drives and tapes to buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you got DVD Studio Pro.....GET THIS!!!, 7 Jan 2005
By MR S S BHACHU (HAYES, MIDDLESEX United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I purchased this book as a starter guide for me to learn how to produce professional looking DVD's using my new apple mac and DVD Studio Pro.

This book did not dissapoint! It took you through the basics of essentials of DVD, how to integrate other software to work with DVD Studio Pro (i.e. Final Cut and PhotoShop).

It also goes through the process of encoding and how to get the best quality DVD projects made and how to work with basic concepts and ideas to get the maximum gains.

It also goes through the things other books tend to leave behind such as creating title safe and video safe DVD's (i.e. making sure what you seen when you are creating the DVD is actually seen when you put the final product into your DVD player at home!)

I went from an absolute beginner to a semi-pro DVD producer through then use of this book!!

BUY IT!!
