Product Description

Product Description

People are drawn to making jewellery for several reasons: they may be eager to try out design ideas, they may enjoy constructing pieces or they may simply be keen to have a finished piece of their own making. Whatever the reason, the jeweller today is able to use a number of methods and work with a wide variety of interesting materials. THE JEWELLERY MAKING MANUAL will advise the beginner on their tools and materials, showing how to make simple, but very effective, pieces with limited resources. All the basic techniques, many of which are thousands of years old, are clearly explained and illustrated, in addition to more advanced special techniques. As the beginner grows in experience and confidence, more complex and exciting pieces can be made, though often the techniques themselves remain simple. As skills are mastered, personal approaches and combinations of techniques can be developed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good to learn the basics., 29 Jul 1999
By A Customer
This is a useful book to have. It talks through traditional basic proceedures well but lacks the more contemporary/modern techniques. Design ideas are poor and tend to reflect a seventies feel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Beginner's Manual, 15 Jul 2008
This book covers nearly everything you need to know to get started on making your own jewellery and gives lots of tips to make sure you work safely. Easy to follow instructions for making the projects. The latter part of the book covers more complex design elements and mould making. I would recommend this book to others interested in making their own jewellery.

4.0 out of 5 stars jewellery making manual, 23 Dec 2006
this book indeed has a seventies feel to it but it equips you with all the information you need in jewellery making ideal for the silversmith or goldsmith student.good mordern day designs are an outcome from a good understanig from the traditional methods.
