Product Description

Product Description
"I know that I'm going to get stick over this book, but there you go - it can't be helped. And some readers might think I'm a terrible liar when they read what follows, but everything in this book is true. Enough lies have been told about me, without me adding to them." Famous as the lovable couch potato Jim Royle of "The Royle Family", Ricky Tomlinson has entertained millions without ever leaving his armchair. In his autobiography, he surprises yet again with a story of love, hardship, humour, injustice and triumph. His mother used to tell him that he had lived three lives, but even she miscounted. He has been a plasterer, banjo player, stand-up comic, union agitator, political activist, film extra, award-winning actor and unwilling guest of Her Majesty's prison service. Renowned and respected for his honesty, wit and integrity, Ricky brings all of these qualities to his extraordinary, moving and inspiring story.

About the Author
Ricky Tomlinson has starred in BROOKSIDE; CRACKER; MIKE BASSETT, ENGLAND MANAGER (soon to be made into a TV series); RAINING STONES; CLOCKING OFF; NICE GUY EDDIE, 51ST STATE amongst many others. He lives in Liverpool with his wife, Rita.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rick? Ricky me foot!, 15 Jun 2004
By Patrick Duffy "The Dapper Dude" (Ireland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Whilst walking around Dublin during the Christmas I spotted this book. Although I've seen Ricky on television, I really knew nothing about him but this book made me laugh and cry. He comes across as honest and a down to earth soul, mixing it with the grass roots and with the upper crusts of society. But at the end of the day he's just plain "Ricky". When I started reading this book I found I couldn't leave it down, I just wanted to know what was going to happen next. Some of the stories are priceless and it is amazing to think what sort of life is behind the public face. I found it touching at times and, for me, it is that little bit of magic which makes it a "must have" book.

5.0 out of 5 stars a down to earth read, 14 Nov 2003
By James Whitby (Nottingham England) - See all my reviews
i was expecting this book to be brilliant and i wasn't dissapointed. Ricky tells a brilliant story and it made me laugh out loud several times a few surprising bits as well. Something that struck me was his son clifton's resemblance to Ralf little his screen son in the royle familly good casting. My favourite bit was when he was in Boy's from the blackstuff he thumped Bernard Hill yosser at a party because in rickys words ("he was being a twat)and the two still don't speak Bernards loss. Anyway if you want any more read it yourself. Well done Rick.

3.0 out of 5 stars Once a Scouser, always a Scouser, 28 Jul 2004

This review is from: Ricky (Paperback)
I work in the construction trade, and let me tell you, Ricky is something of a celebrity within the industry... not so much for being the brilliantly funny Jim Royle, but for the life he lived in the early 70's. I read this book and appreciated the humour, and the candour, of the man, but I have to say, his reputation knows no bounds in terms of what he got up to. The one thing you notice from reading this (very readable) book is how many arguments he got into, how trouble always seemed to find him rather than the other way around... draw your own conclusions. An interesting and worthwhile read, but remember, there are two sides to every story...
