5.0 out of 5 stars Depressingly entertaining!, 15 Aug 2000
By A Customer
If you're as sad as me and live for quiz nights at the pub, if you've memorised the home grounds of every third division football team, every Eurovision winner since 1956, and the capitals of every U.S. state, you'll enjoy this book. Don't worry: the author's a bit sad too, and he knows it. It's warm and funny, recounting his triumphs (and trying to justify the defeats) in pub quizzes and TV quiz shows. Lots of anecdotes mixed with an entertaining history of the quiz, and some of those really tricky questions that you're sure you know the answer to... On the other hand, if you have a life, you'll probably hate this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The funniest book for years written for anoraks !, 3 April 2001
How funny is this book and for trivia buffs, how accurate is it to our lives? From the history of pub trivia, playing Give Us A Break and knowing "blokes who live off their winnings", through the evolution of Trivial Pursuit, to the pub quiz league, all quiz low-life is here. If you've ever put £1 in a trivia machine, ever sat in a smokey pub quiz or worse, set a quiz of your own, this book is laugh out loud funny and one you won't put down !

5.0 out of 5 stars Berkmann rides again, 31 Oct 2000
By A Customer
Brain men lacks the guffaw-out-loud quality that Rain men had but this does not stop it from being a brilliant read. The observation in Brain men is much keener (witness the classic discussion on who holds the pen) which makes it just as enjoyable as Rain Men and the questions are clever enough to make you walk around the office continually berating yourself for forgetting that Montgomery is the state capital of Alabama !
