Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

No athlete has changed his sport the way Tiger Woods has transformed the world of golf. The Tiger phenomenon has created a new legion of golfers, seduced by Woods' almost effortless mastery of this most difficult game. In How I Play Golf Woods reveals the many facets of his game and offers a plethora of tips and advice aimed at all levels of play. Unlike most golf guides and perhaps somewhat surprising from a player best known for his long game, How I Play Golf begins with the short game--putting, chipping, and pitching--before moving onto swing mechanics and hitting off the tee. Produced in conjunction with the editors of Golf Digest, the book is lavishly photographed and illustrated and offers a goldmine of useful ideas and mental images that Tiger himself has collected over the years. Throughout, Tiger recounts memorable shots from his relatively brief career; for example, his only "perfect" shot (a 3-wood on No. 14 at St. Andrews) and his first putt at the 1995 Masters (20-footer for birdie on No.1 that missed and rolled off the green). How I Play Golf is not only a first-rate instructional guide, it also communicates a passion and respect for the game that beginners, hackers, and low-handicappers should find inspiring. Highly recommended. --Harry C Edwards

Review

A book on how to play golf by Tiger Woods? Who could resist a guide to the game by its most accomplished practitioner in many years? The techniques explained in this highly accessible (and unique) golf instruction book do not reveal Tiger Woods' own individual characteristics, but it is nevertheless the perfect introductory guide for everyone, man or woman, young or old, tall or short. The book is structured differently from other golf instruction books, starting at the green and progressing backwards - just the way Tiger Woods himself learnt to play. It includes such key areas as nailing the fairway woods, ensuring that your swing is built to last, and (appropriate in the ever more contentious climate of all sports) how to react when golf gets ugly. Tiger Woods is unquestionably the greatest golfer in the world today, a phenomenon as an amateur and an even greater phenomenon since he turned pro in 1995 and won virtually every award. The text here is written in collaboration with the editors of Golf Digest, and it really is the best of Tiger Woods: we are spared that cringe-inducing self-aggrandisement with which Tiger Woods always trumpets his own achievements.

5.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining instructional book, a hard feat to acheive!, 10 Oct 2001
By A Customer
A very easy to read and fun book so far as instructional texts go. I went through all the pages of this hefty manual in one night-it was that captivating! The tips are very useful and easy to follow. Well illustrated. However, I think a complete beginner would be slightly out of his depth with this book. An essential bible for all other levels of golfers.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must buy for any aspiring golfer., 5 Oct 2001
By A Customer
When i bought this book i thought that it was just another gimmick, so that someone could make some money out of a famous name. I am glad to say i was completely wrong. It has helped with my swing and most importantly my short game. My handicap is sure to come down and i urge any would be golfer to buy this essential purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised, 2 Jan 2002
By A Customer
I received this book as an Xmas gift. I was expecting it to probably contain some good photos, but I didn't expect the content to be that great (after all, he can't be a great teacher as well as a great player?)

WRONG!!

This is a really good book, easy to read, but with fairly in-depth analysis on a lot of key concepts in golf. I've only been playing for a few months, and I learned a lot from this book (and would definitely recommend it..)
