4.0 out of 5 stars Tightly written, 18 Feb 2007
This review is from: The Gift (Paperback)
Davy is about 13 and has inherited 'the gift' from his father's side of the family. It means that at certain moments, he can see into other people's thoughts. Not what they are intending to do, but the pictures they have in their head. In this way, he learns about the feud between his father and his grandmother, and also picks up on people's daydreams. Which is all fine until he starts to get disturbing images created by another man's mind. Images involving violence and bloodshed - and Davy's own father. I was totally gripped by this book - it's not a long novel but it's tightly written and easy to follow. A really original angle on the whole 'mind-reading' idea. The front cover was SO uninspiring but I borrowed an old copy from the library and think it's been re-released with a more up-to-date one. Hopefully the new cover will do it justice as this is a really good book. Easily spooked children shouldn't read it!
