I believe Cooper's book can be very well personified into a teacher who has been teaching C programming to generations of students. This is the first and the last book on C Programming that I ever read. I did not feel the need to read another book on C after reading this book as a beginner four years ago.

The book has been written in a wonderful conversational style, but at the same time it takes enough words to emphasize certain minute but important details which cannot be left out. The exercises after each chapter are graded in terms of the level of difficulty of each problem. These exercises provide a complete mental "work-out" in the field with which the chapter is dealing with. But probably the most interesting part of each chapter is a section called "The Spirit of C:" . This section shows to the reader the relevance of the topic (of the chapter) in the real world by tackling a particular problem and displaying how the topic(like pointers, data structures, files etc) helps in providing a solution to the problem.

I highly recommend this book not only to the beginner but also to those who have got lost reading a lot of materials on C and require an authoratative text to clear their doubts. This is the teacher of C that a needy one is in search of.
