As I understood this biography must be a book first published in 1983.This edition is a new one.
The book has some advantages and some disadvantages.
It is the only biography of one star of the 40's which is really forgotten, as no VHS or DVD of hers is available in Europe. The life of Veronica Lake follows a script of usual elements :possesive mother, failed marriages, alcohol drinking, abortions and unfit motherhood. The book is well written, but the photographs that accompany the book are of poor quality and they are printed in the same quality of paper like the text, something that does not allow the reader to familiarize with the face of Veronica Lake. (The author mentions that she was very beautiful...something that I couldn't understand because of the pictures...)
This is the fist biography, that I have read, that the editor is numbering the pages of the photographs,which usually in other biographies are not numbered. Something else that really annooyed me is the absence of a biography or an appendix. The writer mentions many times in his book that Veronica Lake had mentally problems, but he does not give any documentation that this fact is real. (I dont accuse the author, of course, for fabrication of facts, but for absence of documentation.)
To be fair...this is one of the enjoyable biographies...It isn't perfect...it isn't bad...
