4.0 out of 5 stars The Bitch Posse 4 1/2 stars!, 11 Jan 2006
By DevJohn01 (Somerset, NJ) - See all my reviews

This review is from: The Bitch Posse (Hardcover)
Roger Ebert once said (and I am paraphrasing) that no good movie is ever depressing, only bad movies are depressing. No matter how sad the content you should walk away from a good movie happier for having watched it. That is how I felt about 'THE BITCH POSSE', the story was definitely dark and ultimately you do feel a certain sadness for these characters but I was happier for having read it. The main characters Cherry, Rennie and Amy are all of the things that the other reviewers have said over-sexed, drugged out, self-loathing teenagers who grew into even worse adults. And I must admit that while the story sucked me in and I found it hard to put down I couldn't really understand why these three women couldn't let go of the past and move on to be productive and well adjusted adults. They kept referring to this one night that would connect them forever even though they haven't spoken in almost twenty years. I found it hard to imagine that any one incident that happened in high school would affect three adults so deeply. However, once their secret is revealed I totally understood why these women did the things that they did. Instead of it being a let down as one reviewer claimed, to me it made the entire book make sense. These three women had every right to be self-loathing and very screwed up adults.

I bought this book to read on a plane ride and was not able to put it down throughout my entire trip! 'THE BTICH POSSE' is the second book I have read this month that I can say with assurance is one of those books that stay with you for a long, long time after you¡¦ve read it and for a book lover that is a good month. :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars dark and startilingly candid yet addictive, 14 Feb 2007
By Fickleama (London. UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Bitch Posse (Hardcover)
I bought this for a holiday book and read it on the plane there. I couldn't put it down. Be warned it is not for the lighthearted looking for a happy ever after story. But it is compelling with all it's shameful moments, scary truths and bad language at times. Even so, you are drawn to the characters, despite all their wild and corrupt ays, you do feel a certain kind of empathy almost pity for their lives. If you like dark reads, this one is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars shocking but good, 20 Sep 2006
By PetitCanard (Lausanne) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Bitch Posse (Hardcover)
I agree with one of the first reviews, it's shocking that a book like this is available in a supermarket for any teenager to read. The book is certainly fascinating. Especially the set-up with three different points of view and the changing time of narration. My first thoughts were: oh this is just sick, but all the time I was hoping for a reasonable change in the story, that's why I kept on reading.
Still, I think the happening of "that night" that is spoken about the whole time is easy to guess half way through the book. And I personally think that what "they did" is not a proof of friendship. Sex certainly plays a bigger role than friendship in the book. Over all it was fascinating to read the book, although I was slighlty disappointed by the end.
I would say the book is kind of like "Cruel intentions". Provocative and presumingly "what everybody already once thought"...
