5.0 out of 5 stars Espionage and Washington Intrigue, 30 Nov 2003
By Peter Kenney (Birmingham, Alabama, USA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
One of the more interesting characters we encounter in this story is Tinker Burns, a spry old ex-French Foreign Legionnaire and maybe the only living American veteran of Dien Bien Phu. TWILIGHT AT MAC'S PLACE is one of the best novels I have read about espionage and Washington intrigue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Introducing Granny Haynes, 9 May 2002
By A Customer
This is a later McCorkle and Padillo adventure set in Washington, D.C. Thomas again uses their bar and grill as a focal point. The real hero of the story is Granny Haynes, former LAPD detective and now aspiring actor. I consider this book to be one of Ross Thomas' bettor efforts, full of insights on maneuverings within the CIA and the Washington power elite.

5.0 out of 5 stars hooray for Ross Thomas, 6 April 2009
By anthony (Brazil) - See all my reviews
I read this book some years ago and have since bought all the books Ross Thomas wrote that I can get my hands on (for a reasonable price!). Thanks to the publishers who reissued most of his books recently they have been easier to find, but even these new editions are mostly unavailable except second-hand (and often at outrageous prices) so reprints would be welcome. Funny, fast and clever plots, superb dialogue and memorable characters. For anyone who enjoys thrillers with a CIA-type background (with the CIA itself being mercilessly pilloried)all his books are required reading. Highly recommended - Twilight is one of the best and as good a place as any to start.
