2.0 out of 5 stars sadly disappointed, 29 Nov 2003
Despite high expectations, I am sadly disappointed by Grounds for Golf: The History and Fundamentals of Golf Course Design. I found the material presented interesting but tainted by repetitiveness and the author's perjorative attitude towards the forms of architecture other than the strategic school which he champions. Yes, it is a shame that golf course architecture has been commercialised, is influenced by big business, and that architects do not always stay on site to oversee the design. Big deal. Welcome to the real world. I did appreciate Shackleford's various lists and references to explore the area more fully, but overall the book falls short of the mark.
